Thanks for checking out my page! You're likely here because you know me and/or my work. I'm a writer/artist from southwest Virginia, and I've also lived in Madison, WI, Tuscaloosa, AL (where I received an MFA in poetry), and Somerville, MA.  I'm currently based in Blacksburg, VA, where I work on way too  many projects and eat way too many Sour Patch Kids.   Here's more about my creative writing, music journalism, and visual art.  Feel free to use the contact form below if you'd like to get in touch.

Creative work

I’m well published in both poetry and fiction, particularly flash fiction, and have also published a number of creative nonfiction pieces. I’m currently at work on a book-length lyric essay/ memoir.

I’ve been nominated for numerous Pushcart Prizes, Best of the Net, and Best New Poets. I’ve worked on literary magazines Black Warrior Review, Premiere Generation Ink, and H-NGM-N.

I’m seeking publishers for my book, COLONY COLLAPSE, nd my two chapbooks Autopsy Theater and book of shadows. The former is a collection of poems dealing w embodiment. The latter is an incantatory long poem focused on gritty magic.

I write a lot about bees, dead rock stars, stage magic, and classic film.

Music journalism

Since 2008, I have been prolific as a music journalist. I’ve contributed to PopMatters, VenusZine,The Quietus, The Rumpus, Salon, Drowned in Sound, bandcamp, The Week, No Depression, Bay Bridged, and more.

From 2011-12, I ran my own interview blog, Euterpe's Notebook.

I’ve held editorial positions at PopMatters and The Rumpus. I would be interested in other paid contributing/editorial opportunities.

My favorite genres to cover are experimental rock, contemporary classical, and contemporary folk. I especially love covering Icelandic artists and female musicians.

Book reviews

I have written numerous book reviews and writer interviews, focusing on contemporary poetry and nonfiction. My reviews have appeared in Rain Taxi, Drunken Boat, The Rumpus, Bookslut, and others.

Paid writing / editing (including music promotional writing)
I do offer paid writing / editing services; contact me via the below form if interested. I have substantial experience writing band bios and press releases, as well as helping edit creative work.

Visual art

I’m also a visual artist, making lyrical abstract paintings in ink/watercolor as well as resin art.

The vast majority of the work posted here has been an unpaid labor of love, even when writing or editing music journalism for certain major sites. (PopMatters, The Quietus, The Rumpus, or Drowned in Sound).

If you've enjoyed reading my work, I encourage you to show your appreciation with a PayPal donation, however small.
